Questions
Yes, I currently accept most Highmark and UPMC commercial plans.
Before making an appointment, you should contact your insurance company and ask them some questions so that you are aware of your coverage. I encourage all my clients to also check their coverage at the beginning of the year since many plans change. Call the number on the back of your insurance card and the following questions should help get you started.
Do I have coverage for Outpatient Mental Health?
Do I owe a copay or deductible and how much is due at the time of the appointment?
Does my plan have any limits such as the number of sessions in a year I am allowed to have?
Is Magnolia Wellness and Counseling or the provider Elizabeth Sarraf, LPC an in-network provider with my plan?
Sessions are typically about 55 minutes long. The last few minutes is dedicated to planning for the next session and scheduling. Shorter or longer sessions can be discussed with the therapist but will be dependent on billing and scheduling.
Studies have showing that your relationship with your therapist is the most important factor in effective treatment. You should feel comfortable with the person sitting across from you, without fear of judgment. I use the first two to three sessions to get to know each other and ensure that we both believe we are a good fit.
When starting therapy, I typically recommend clients come weekly or biweekly. This provides an opportunity for a strong relationship to be built as well as to develop a comprehensive treatment plan to be developed. As you make progress sessions may not be required as frequently. This is a decision that we will make together.
